This service is to turn down your Lionel wheels that are oversized that are found on some newer Lionel diesel engines.  The factory built wheel diameter measure 1.082" with the flange.

Many people reported that this oversized wheel flanges cause the engine to bump up and down while traveling through many different brands of switches.

Once we turn down the wheel flanges the engine run smoothly through the switches.  We turn down these wheels on a lathe to a diameter is 1.046" with the flange.

Depending on when engine was made, traction tire wheels may not need to be turned down.

Some know models are:

Legacy Sharknose

Legacy SD70ACe

Legacy AC6000

Legacy GP-7

Lionel is aware of the problem and is working on a new design but has yet to come out with a fix. We do not need the whole engine, only the wheel sets on the axles.

Cost  $45 (per engine) + 6.95 shipping

(additional shipping cost for more than 1 engine)

Here is a video of some SD70ACe engines that have had their wheels turned down

Here is a few postings about this problem from the forum.

How to Remove Wheel sets

Below is a couple of photos showing the wheel sets being removed from the engines.  When you do remove them remember to take note the orientation of the wheels and position (i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th etc. from whichever end of the engine you start removing them from, front or rear.) Be sure to label the axles with these numbers. You can do this with a piece of masking tape with the number written on wrapped around each axle.
